Candle will be placed before the Icon of the Theotokos.
The Angel Gabriel appeared unto the Virgin Mary and said “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women!” (Luke 1: 28). “And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His name Jesus” (Luke 1: 31). “Then Mary said, ‘Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to thy word.” Afterwards, Mary visited Elizabeth, the mother of St. John the Baptist, who embraced Mary as “the mother of my Lord” (Luke 1: 43). As the Mother of God, for God dwelt in her womb, She intercedes before Her Son for those who run to Her. And so, we place candles here to ask for Her holy prayers before the Throne of God, that we be delivered from all kinds of distress and trouble and that our faith be strengthened.
